Don't get spooked by your clutter! - 30th October 2024
Halloween is upon us! The time when many people turn their thoughts to ghosts, ghouls and other spooky characters. If a ghost suddenly showed up in your home, you would likely get the fright of your life. You would be spooked. What if it's your clutter that has spooked you?
It might sound over dramatic, but yes, in certain situations your clutter can actually be quite scary!
When you find items of clutter that you had completely forgotten about!
One thing most people do if they can't declutter their clutter is to squirrel it away out of sight. It gets boxed up and placed at the back of a big cupboard perhaps, or maybe it gets located in the loft or garage? The owner of the clutter feels confident that they can feel better now that the dreaded clutter is hidden away.
At some point though the clutter comes back with a vengeance! It becomes necessary to go to the garage or loft and open some boxes to find a particular thing. Or perhaps that big cupboard gets rearranged for some reason? All of a sudden you are face to face with stuff you don't really want or need but that you simply can't release.
You are shocked. It's almost as though memories from the distant past have jumped out in front of you from a secret hiding place. That clutter may have been in hiding for years! It demands attention. It doesn't matter if it's one small item like a photo, or letter, or if it's something a lot bigger. The potential impact is the same.
The ghost of repressed emotions exists for a reason
Make the most of this opportunity! Yes, opportunity! This face to face encounter with your clutter gives you a chance to do what you were unable to do years ago and that is to feel the feelings associated with the clutter. If you can release pent up grief or anger that you have carried around for years then you are doing your health a massive favour. Once you've allowed yourself to feel all those "inappropriate" feelings you will likely find that you can get on with some decluttering.
If you still feel a bit stuck but at least can find some determination, then why not get in touch to find out how I can help you move on?
