Decluttering for hot weather - 8th July 2025
Decluttering can be very physical - so what can you do when the weather is just too hot for being active?
Decluttering does not have to stop when temperatures soar!
Some people thrive in hot weather. I'm not one of them. If however you are that kind of person - you don't need to read this blog post. Just carry on with whatever decluttering you need to do!
If like me hot weather robs you of energy BUT you don't want to give up with your decluttering there are plenty of lighter tasks that you can tackle. Provided you are able to keep your home relatively cool by keeping curtains and windows closed during the hottest times, you should still be OK for some light activity indoors. You also get the bonus of sustaining decluttering momentum, assuming you have already begun your home project.
If you have not yet started decluttering it might be that my suggestions can get you up and running.
Whatever you decide to do, remember that you are in charge and you can do as much or as little as feels good for you.
Suggested hot weather decluttering projects
1. Digital decluttering
This might be surplus emails, files, folders, apps, programs, you name it! Anything that you are no longer using but is taking up valuable storage space on your device. Start with whatever feels easiest. This kind of decluttering brings speedy and impressive results if you apply yourself. This is why it's my number one suggestion. Let me know how you get on.
2. Handbag or briefcase
This is a good beginner project because there is a defined limit to the scope of this project and it's tiny compared with tackling a cupboard or a room. Just tip the contents onto the floor and weed out what is absolutely unnecessary and weighing you down! Let me know if you try this one.
3. Accessories
Think, jewellery, belts, scarves, men's ties! All lightweight, easy to spread out and choose the ones you really like to use enabling you to separate out those items that are just taking up valuable space. Select one category to begin and if you enjoy it try another! Tackling this mini-project might even get you thinking about tackling your entire wardrobe - something for the cooler weather, perhaps? Let me know which of these you decide to try.
4. Kitchen spice rack
Trust me, it is SO easy to hang onto out of date herbs and spices! This is an opportunity to clear out all those jars full of stale herbs/spices that have lost their pungency. Maybe you bought a jar for a special meal and never used it again? Recycle the jars, put the contents in the bin. Not much energy required. Result? Tidy spice rack with ingredients you know you will use! Let me know if you try this.
5. Make-up and/or toiletries
Depending on energy levels you can limit this to just make-up or certain kinds of toiletries. This is actually very similar to decluttering your spice rack as like spices toiletries and make-up deteriorate over time, equally you may have bought certain items that you never really used. Now is the time to clear your dressing-table or bathroom. No heavy lifting required. Satisfaction guaranteed. Let me know if you try this one.
These five suggestions should keep you decluttering through the hot weather. Do let me know how you get on and if you want to send me your feedback just contact me here
Always make sure you keep yourself well hydrated - when concentrating it is easy to forget to have enough to drink!
