•  Do you need special lenses to view your clutter?

I was recently at the optician for a check-up and it reminded me of my very first eye test when I was aged about eleven. I had told my mum I couldn't see clearly at school, and I was found to be short-sighted.

I must admit I was a bit anxious about how it would feel to have a pair of glasses permanently perched on my nose. However, nothing prepared me for the day of collection. The optician fitted the spectacles and I still remember it clearly; especially leaving the shop with my mum.

•  What if your clutter had a 'Best Before' date?

We're all used to checking Best Before dates on food and perishable items. Often this means that things have to be thrown out because they are basically life expired. At some level then, we are OK about decluttering food because we know that if that date has passed then the food will not taste as it should and ultimately it will go off.

What about other things you have in your home?

•  I deactivated my Twitter account - so what?

I'm not sure if I had a rush of blood to the head, but last week I suddenly decided I didn't need Twitter in my life any more. So I deactivated my account. Apparently I have 30 days to change my mind. I know I won't do that.

Read on if you want to know what that has to do with decluttering!

•  Stuck Records and Vicious Circles

A client recently described her behaviour as being like a "stuck record" and that got me thinking.

What does that actually mean? Is there anything we can do about it? Might a stuck record be first cousin to a vicious circle?

•  If an Englisman's Home is his Castle, what is an Englishwoman's Home?

Whenever I hear this phrase I think of a castle drawbridge being wound up. The meaning being more or less that the Englishman in question can please himself in his home and what's more it's down to him whom he permits to cross the threshold. This is about personal freedom, and also about security.

I think the concept of a home is quite different for women. Not just Englishwomen, either!

•  Auntie Mabel's Legacy

Auntie Mabel was something of an inspiration to me when I was younger. She was a talented woman and I now have one of her paintings in my home. It serves as a reminder of how her actions continue to influence me long after her death.

•  Decluttering - what's the point?

Everywhere you look there are books, TV programmes and even blog posts advocating the benefits of decluttering.

Maybe you have what most people would term a "cluttered" home, but actually, you have no inclination whatsoever to declutter? Is that a problem?

What exactly is the point of decluttering?

•  Decluttering - the Journey, Not the Destination

I'm always a little wary of people who tell me they are "always decluttering." I sense they are looking for some kind of affirmation from me - that they're the ones who have got it right.

Have they got it right? Do you envy those kind of people?

•  Graham and the waffle maker

Maybe a subtitle for this blog post should be "the salutory lesson of surprise gifts" or similar!

I've been intending to write this post since January - my husband Graham's birthday falls on the 24th of that month.

This is Graham, below - looking surprised!

•  January Detox? Or should that be 'Declutter'?

It's that time of year, isn't it?  Everywhere you turn, articles and TV programmes urging us to detox and get healthy for 2016.

Many people turn to a detox in order to counteract the excesses of the festive period.  Their aim is to lose a few pounds and to gain in energy and vitality.

Detox and Declutter - similarities you might not expect . . . .
